About this photograph
A lone figure crosses a mirror of wet sand as the tide draws back. Low water on a Kerry strand, where the sky comes down to meet you.
When the tide goes out on a flat Atlantic beach, it leaves a thin skin of water behind, and for an hour or so the sand becomes a mirror. The beach holds whatever the sky is doing: grey, silver or blue, depending on the day.
This photograph looks down on the strand from high above. The single walker gives the scene its scale; without them it could be a painting, or a view of a river delta from the air. The lines the retreating water has drawn in the sand lead the eye across the frame towards them.
It is the quietest print in the collection, and one of the most modern-looking: minimal and calm, mostly sky and water. It works beautifully in a bedroom or a study, anywhere you want Irish coastal wall art that slows a room down. For anyone who grew up walking Irish beaches in winter, it will feel like a memory.
